Sally Clark and Sir Roy Meadow

I woke up on Saturday with the usual hangover and an odd, nagging feeling at the back of my mind. I was thinking about Sally Clark, and how terrible it must have been for her to go to prison for murdering her sons, even though she was innocent. As nightmare scenarios go, I could think of little worse than losing your children, then your freedom, and then your career. To be a convicted child killer is one of the worst possible things to be in a prison.

Then I wandered into the newsagent’s and saw the newspaper headlines saying Sally Clark had died.

The cause of death will be determined by the coroner and by a post mortem, but whatever it reveals, I am inclined to believe the family when they say she "never fully recovered" from the effects of the "appalling miscarriage of justice". Prison almost certainly broke Sally Clark, and the tragedy is even her exoneration and freedom could not lessen the impact of the years spent inside for murdering her children.

Her death is tragic, and leaves a terrible taste in the mouth of any right thinking person. It is tempting to look for scapegoats – something I would normally try to avoid. But this time there is someone who is definitely to blame. The arrogant, ignorant Sir Roy Meadow. This man was supposed to be an expert witness – someone who offers the jury the truth about what happened to Sally’s Clark’s boys. But, as An Englishman’s Castle so eloquently puts it, Meadow seems to have lacked even a basic understanding of statistics. Parents have been imprisoned because of Meadow’s evidence and supposed expert testimony. You could argue that to err is human, and that Meadow is living proof. But we have to accept that we are responsible for mistakes in this life, and Meadow’s punishment (being struck off) was utterly lacking – not least because it has now been over-turned!

The people who have had to bear the responsibility and punishments for Meadow’s mistakes are those who were convicted and imprisoned because of his evidence. Meadow himself has not had to face up to the devastating impact his intellectual crassness has had. It is one of the great injustices of our time that Sally Clark should have to pay such a hefty price – ultimately perhaps even with her life – for Meadow’s blunder. Whist the person who made the mistake(s) escapes effectively without punishment.

Thank you for your tribute to Sally Clark.

This is an open letter to Prof Hamblin who has blocked replies at his blog.

Professor Hamblin,

Your erroneous original thoughts still stand here. Yes, the Internet is a big place, but not for an 8-year old grieving boy whose name is on your blog.

I actually have more respect for Roy Meadows who has maintained a respectful silence (who carried out his job to the best of his ability, armed with the technology at the time) than I have for you, a person armed with hindsight who says:

“Perhaps Clark was possessed by guilt that she really had killed her kids.”

One of her babies died of a staph infection. How do you justify this argument, which you posted 24 hours after her death? How can she kill her baby by staph? You and I are both armed with hindsight.

One of these “kids” is an 8-year-old boy who is likely to be reading your message.

You also say: "Sally Clark has died in suspicious circumstances."

As a medical professional, how can you suggest these are the circumstances 48 hours before a post mortem?

OK, I accept this is doctor’s jargon for “sudden death” but to the layperson (including an 8-year old boy) this means foul play or murder. How would you explain that supposition to the other occupant of her house when he reads this message at your blog?

If I were you and I chose to leave the original post here indefinitely, I would be looking at compensating this little boy in monetary terms. I think you should admit your error by sending this boy (the deceased's son) a cheque for an amount no less than £100,000 as compensation in the event he reads these inaccurate and malicious slurs against his late mother.

Regards,
Coral

An inquest heard that she probably died of natural causes but more tests were needed to find a definitive cause.

You will by now have realised that the confused sanctimonious comments by the ubiquitous 'Coralpoetry' have no bearing on the truth, something she would be confounded by were she ever able to rise to its contemplation. She believes, with the certainty of the obtuse and morally deficient, that the protection of innocent children against those that threaten them is a forum in which it is appropriate to take up arms on the side of the abusers.

THERE IS NO HIGHER AUTHORITY TO CONFIRM THAT A PERSON WAS WRONGLY CONVICTED.

THERE IS NO HIGHER AUTHORITY TO CONFIRM THE EVIL PRACTICES OF CERTAIN (Dr. Mengele type) DOCTORS WHO CARRY OUT EVIL EXPERIMENTS ON BABIES IN HOSPITALS.

Dr. David Murray, aka, TERRY HAMBLIN, a responder here is NOT a doctor. He is a stalking pervert who posts from scads and scads of different servers from all around the world.

So...Dr.David Murry, aka, TERRY HAMBLIN, the above poster, aka. Celerman of Celermansworld, aka Rob Cooper and Monk Bretton - answer this question:

Whilst we are on the subject of babies and doctors neglecting babies,, why are you NOT DEFENDING Madeleine McCann's parents (a GP and a Consultant) for leaving THREE babies locked up for at least an hour whilst they went to dinner?

I have not said anything in my blog because that will not bring her back, but I intend on making great inroads to prevent perverts from stalking families and their children as is evidenced by new Policing Laws in Britain. The Police can now stop and question ANYBODY under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for NO REASON in particular. I intend to give families and civilians similar powers to stop ANYBODY for stalking other people's children and that includes creating websites for the purpose of luring children, one of which is here:

Dr.D, aka TERRY HAMBLIN blog author

There are hundreds of blogs criticising the McCanns for leaving their three children alone. It is an offence in the UK and the Police and Social Services would have charged the parents with neglect. But you wouldn't know this fact because you aren't British.

I do not see you jumping into these blogs to defend the McCanns. Why not? Because you are stalking one blog in particular.

How would you know anything about Sally Clark? You aren’t British. You only heard of Sally Clark and Roy Meadows in March 2007.

This is what the BRITISH police are saying in a forum about Roy Meadows, which I do not agree with, because it is judgment carried out with hindsight, and it is useless. Roy Meadows carried out his job to the best of his ability AT THE TIME, which was biased and derisory, as his wife will testify.

Ha! Well, oddly enough, I don't have Meadow's number of speed dial. Good luck finding him, though. After all, his reputation isn't in pieces or anything.
