Quick Question

What is BBC 6 Music, and why should I care that it is being closed down?*

*It is still one question, just with two parts.

BBC 6 itself is simple - it is programming for fans of popular music.

Shutting it down may be more important symbolically, as it belies any pretence that the BBC is set up to cover minority programming.

Chris Dillow puts it better than me.

no that's two questions. a single two part question would be how does x affect y and z. you asked what is x and why should x, clearly two questions.

my answers would be some government sponsored crap, and you shouldn't.

In answer to your two questions: no idea, and no idea.

A station that does what the commercial sector will not, and hence is the sort of thing some believe the BBC should be doing.

So, you should care, if and only if you think the Beeb's function to provide non-commercial stuff is important *and* if you think this forms a precedent.
