Nicholas Winterton - Wanker

Sir Nicholas Winterton, showing all the charm and sophistication that has made him one of our most hated MPs:
Sir Nicholas Winterton has angrily denounced plans to reduce first-class travel by MPs - telling the BBC he needs "quiet" and privacy to work.
Oh my, this is going to be a good one. Let's see dig down and examine exactly why Winterton doesn't want to travel the way the vast majority of people travel in this country:
The veteran Tory MP said there was a "totally different type of people" in standard-class train carriages.
Yes, there is a totally different type of person, Nicky boy. The people you represent - or, at least, supposed to represent. And God forbid that an MP might have to interact or spend time with ordinary people. That would be fucking terrible. But it isn't just a general snobbery that is stopping Winterton from sharing a train carriage with those that Alan B'stard might refer to as the ordinaries. No, he also needs to work:
"If I was in standard class I would not do work because people would be looking over your shoulder the entire time, there would be noise, there would be distraction."
Yes, yes there would be distraction. Which is why most people either learn to manage their workload so they don't have to work on the train. Or they learn to get over the distractions on the train.

But Nicholas still doesn't think that a train is necessarily a nice environment. And you know what? He'd be right:
"There's lots of children, there's noise, there's activity. I like to have peace and quiet when I'm travelling."
I like to have peace and quiet when I am traveling - unfortunately, I know that if I am on a train, that is not likely to happen. I also know that the option of first class is available to me. I choose not to take it because I am too cheap to upgrade. And this is the option open to Winterton - he could upgrade too. But the idea that the taxpayer should pay for him and his idiotic, odious ilk is repugnant. Why should Winterton - or any other fucking MP, for that matter - be able to enjoy luxury traveller at the expense of those very people he/they are supposed to be serving.

Frankly, Winterton can travel in any style he wishes - on a gold-plated unicorn for all I fucking care. But I'll be damned if I - or any other taxpayer in this country - is going to pay for him to do so.

With taxes, pay for a standard class season ticket, and he can use his own money to bump it up to first class if he likes. Simple solution.

Spot on, yeah. If he needs to travel because of his work, then he should do so at the cheapest rate possible. If he wants add-ons, then his deep pockets can fund them.

This is exactly why as a working class person I could never vote Tory. They do not have the first clue what it is like to be poor. Mind you neither do Labour anymore. Working class people have no options open to them. No mainstream political party represents us anymore. Basically, we're screwed

Well, whoever posted this comment obviously doesn't know him. he had been my MP since before I was born and he has worked constantly for the people who voted for him. He is constantly in the local paper attending event after event and supporting all important local issues.

He is totally right about what he says about the trains. I used to travel to London from Macclesfield on business all the time and you simply can't concentrate with all the people milling around. Add to that the issue of being well known and having sensitive documents and why the hell shouldn't he work in privacy???

After all, it's the people having a go here that would complain if a reporter from The Sun snapped a sensitive document when he was on the train!

Leave the guy alone - you're all on the bloody band wagon as per usual!!!

Woo hoo! We've got a cretin!

Purely anecdotal evidence. And he clearly doesn't care enough about his constituents not to rinse them dry through the expenses system. No, I don't know him - but the evidence available and the comments he makes show him to be a prime cut of Grade A cunt.

He is totally right about what he says about the trains. I used to travel to London from Macclesfield on business all the time and you simply can't concentrate with all the people milling around. He can work in privacy. He has an office in the commons, a constituency office, and several homes. If he cannot organise himself so he doesn't need to do confidential work on the train, then he is not fit to be an MP.

After all, it's the people having a go here that would complain if a reporter from The Sun snapped a sensitive document when he was on the train!

Yes, again, because he doesn't have to do sensitive work on the train!

Leave the guy alone - you're all on the bloody band wagon as per usual!!!

Go fuck yourself. Don't tell me who I can and cannot criticise. And jumping on the bandwagon? Hardly. I've been banging on about MPs expenses since well before the story broke and there was even a bandwagon to jump on.

You might have some affection for your MP, but his comments and his actions show him to be an elitist, arrogant wankstain of the very highest order.

Winterton is too arrogant to care what people think..he's standing down at next election - will probably get a column on some right wing tabloid and go on being the dinosaur he is. His comments are rude which simply shows that a title does not bring class or consideration...it's embarassing..bad manners maketh the plonker.

As regards Anonymous comment that we don't know him I'd like to point out that Nicholas Winterton doesn't know me either but that didn't stop him labelling me as a different type of person because I choose to spend £70 of my own money on a train ticket instead of £200. Remember though the person most annoyed about this will be Cameron; I bet he's spitting feathers now the "Tory Toff" skeleton has come out of the closet again.

I do think you're underestimating how stressful and time consuming a job as an MP is, or how much time they must spend travelling.

As Winterton himself said, he's only trying to get as much work done for his constituents as possible by filling his otherwise "dead" time.

Ciraric,

No, I'm not underestimating an MP's workload at all. If Winterton wants to work on the train, then he could organise himself so he doesn't do sensitive work while traveling. It is what I used to do when I had a mix of confidential and non-confidential work to do. Or he could dip into his own deep pockets and buy a first class ticket if he is actually incapable of organising himself.

Besides - as Winterton's own words show - this has little to do with work and everything to do with not wanting to slum it with the proles.

And I do hope whoever replaces Winterton is a little less like a ravenous leech...
