Anyone know what has happened to LPUK?

Not that I want to rejoin or anything - perfectly happy not to be a member of any political party in future - but rather because I'm planning to update my blogroll and if the party has finally gone to political heaven then there's no point in it or its redudnant blog having a link here.

It has been alleged that certain people are trying to get it closed down, possibly so that the accounts will never come to light.

But I don't know for sure.

Yeah, I'd heard that too. I'd also heard that they were going to hold a SGM to decide on how to rescue the party from its apparently imminent demise. Then, after a flurry of accusation and counter-accusation, it all went silent.

I would love to see the accounts. I figure they must make for very interesting reading.

It's depressing. Isn't it? I fully intended to get involved after we met up at the rally against debt. But nothing is happening.

I don't care about the accounts anymore. I'd just like some sort of activity. Anything.

Seems that after all the bitter fighting the dust has settled and there's nothing left. I suspect that nothing will happen moving forward, and Andrew Withers' claim to fame can be that he is the man who broke a political party beyond repair.

I'm trying to connect together people who feel as you do and do something (not fully sure what yet) over at Libertarian Home.

Andrew Withers is still legally the leader and is doing nothing with the party. Nobody else can legally take over as Leader/Treasurer without him signing the the relevant forms, which he steadfastly refuses to do.

I have stood down from all roles except the legal position of Nominating Officer. I can't do that without a replacement being nominated, and that requires Andrew Withers' signature as well.

The party cannot be shut down without my signature, which I refuse to do.

Tim Carpenter and others still want to get something going but are blocked.

The next big event will presumably be when the Party is supposed to have an AGM and the leader and other officers stands for re-election.

SimonF,

That's quite interesting - Withers is still blocking any progress. I wonder what he wants to achieve by doing so? I could probably make an educated guess though...

Is the AGM meant to occur in December? While I have no doubt that Withers could not be re-elected at this point, I can't help but wonder what will be left of the party if nothing happens until then.

TNL,

AGM Nov/Dec and then accounts submitted to EC. Not sure what will happen at that point.

If anyone turns up, possibly another outbreak of interparty civil war...

And Gavin Webb wants to get involved again and was/is willing to be Chairman. He got a good result in his local by-election.

While I don't agree with a lot of Webb's proposed reforms for the party, he does seem to get the reality of how you win elections in this country - pounding the pavements and handing out leaflets. He has the potential to be a good party chairman who could lay the groundwork for a party determined to contest elections in reality as well as in theory.
