Lots of spam coming through in the comments, so at this rate I'm going to have to introduce comment moderation, which is really tedious but increasingly necessary. However, just so everyone is clear, you can comment on whatever you like in whatever way you like just as long as it isn't libel and you aren't trying to sell anything. Break those two minor rules, and I'll delete your comment. Is all.

It's an utter pain in the butt. I'm getting about 1000 a day spam but the filter is doing not a bad job. Moderation is for when I go away from the blog for any length of time.
Interesting. I use BC spamblock on my wordpress site. This uses Javascript to carry out a CATPCHA check. If you don't have Java running, then you see a dialog box where you cut and past the text string. Bots can't see it, so get stopped.
On balance it's 100% successful stopping bots. For a while it was stopping genuine comments, but seems to have stopped doing that now.
At the moment, the only spam I'm getting is the occasional rogue trackback.
