Oh Happy Day!

If the Con-Dem Coalition achieves nothing else, then it will still deserve praise for this:
Identity cards will be scrapped under plans announced by the new Conservative and Lib Dem coalition government, new Home Secretary Theresa May has said.

Their abolition is among measures the parties have agreed to reverse what they say was "the substantial erosion" of civil liberties in recent years.
The ID card scheme was a monstrous state intervention into the lives of its citizens. Let's hope that this is a genuine move to reinstate some of the civil liberties taken from us by Nu Labour, and let's hope that the database state can be consigned to the dustbin of history, where it so clearly belongs.
