Ken Livingstone Loses It...

...over on LabourLost:
I think he (Boris) was horrified to win, as was Cameron.
Oh dear. Ken Livingstone, allow me to introduce you to the real world. Real world, you remember Ken, don't you? I know he started ignoring you a while back, but...

Everyone knows that Boris was a bit of a gamble for the Tories. And he's a gamble that has, largely, paid off. He won the election he was tasked with winning, and has been a passable Mayor who manages to avoid quite the same number of controversies as Livingstone managed to immerse himself in. But even if he had been a disaster, then the Tories would still have been pleased that he won.

He is the first Tory in a position of substantial power in this country since 1997. He is the first Tory to win a high-profile election since 1992. And he is also a Tory. As bad as he could have potentially been, he is still not Ken Livingstone. Red Ken, the money-hungry, pseudo-environmentalist class warrior. Red Ken, the man who has managed to be a thorn in both the sides of the Labour party and the Tories. Even if Boris was a disaster, they would still rather have him as Mayor of London that fucking Ken Livingstone. Ken hasn't realised that the Labour party have moved on since the 1980's. He's an old-school red, and therefore one of the few people even the nebulous, approval loving Cameron is able to dislike.

Boris - the most powerful Tory in this country since John Major was Prime Minister - is not sorry he won. Nor is the Tory party. Because they got you out of power, Ken. And even taking a gamble in an untested person like Boris is better than keeping you as Mayor of London...

That's a fair summation.

Poor old Ken. Like a divorced dad who just can't come to terms with his Mrs getting remarried to a younger, more charming, more successful bloke. Ken thinks Boris is a prick. He will never accept that Boris could be anywhere near as good as he was at being Mayor.

He does need to get over it though.
He did a credible, if in a tediously dull, taxing, slightly corrupt with his best mates, socialist values sort of way, of being mayor.

But nowhe is starting to get a bit 'Fathers for justice'
If he doesn't get over it soon we will see him dressed in a Superman costume on the top of Nelson's column, demanding to be allowed access to the mayoral office on alternate weekends.

"Divorced Dad" - nice analogy. He certainly comes across as someone who was recently dumped but hasn't quite comes to terms with it. He visits all the places he used to go with the electorate, and resents the person who has taken his place.

And he does need to get over it - and soon. It is getting a little embarrassing, watching the way he so desperately wants to be the Mayor/darling of the electorate again.
