I don't like the Royal Family and I firmly believe that Prince Charles is a jug-eared fuckwit of the highest order. But I cannot get excited or angry about the fact that he is costing the taxpayer more money. It's not because I think he deserves the money (the opposite is true), but rather because the money stolen by the government is spunked away on pointless projects like the Prince on an ongoing basis. It is too tiring to be angry about all the wastage of our money that goes on. If you tried, you'd spend all of your time enraged until you dropped dead of a massive stroke.

So Prince Charles is costing us more money, like a welfare recepient on the take but magnified onto a massive scale. Plus ça change plus c'est la même chose.

Today's Royal family is like some kind of absurd mix of pop idol and feudalism. Just like the show, I cannot understand why people get excited or watch or are in any way interested.

Look we spend a trivial amount on the civil list - and its effectively our marketing budget, as think how many yanks, japs etc.. come over for the pomp and circumstance...

Also the majority of people who get wound up by it are the jealous lefty type how want us all to be as poor and miserbale as they are...

Zero.

They would come anyway to see the palace, one they could actually go inside at anytime. Was your last trip to Versailles in anyway spoiled because the never-never king Louis the XXXVI was not on the throne? Of course not.

SAOT,

Quite. Tourists come for the history. In fact, you could argue that we might make more money from tourists if all of the castles and palaces were completely open to the public after the removal of the incumbents.
